Paul Jaussi and Utah’s Greater Zion area

Kern Audubon Society Zoom General Meeting
Tuesday, January 5, 7 PM

Zion National Park

Zion National Park is known worldwide for its majestic red desert cliffs carved by wild and fluctuating rivers. This landscape brings in over 4 million visitors annually to view this natural wonder of the world. But not many of these visitors know that the surrounding area (Greater Zion) is home to some of the most varied birding in the Western US.

Join us on this webinar as Paul Jaussi, chapter president of the Red Cliffs Audubon, will guide members and friends of the Kern Audubon on a virtual birding tour of Greater Zion, Utah.

This unique region is a convergence of geological features that bring the desert to life with over 400 different species of birds. It is truly a place where the beauty of the birds is matched only by the beauty of the landscape!

The Speaker:
Paul Jaussi was introduced to birding in college when he first saw a Western Tanager through a pair of binoculars and was hooked. That event started a passion for birding that has followed him throughout his life. While a native of Utah, he lived in Oregon for 22 years, where he helped grow the Friends of the Refuge for the newly founded Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, serving as both as a Board member and Vice President for several years.

Paul and his family recently moved to St. George, Utah where he quickly discovered the wildlife diversity of the area. When the small Red Cliffs Audubon chapter was on the verge of shutting down, Paul agreed to take over so the birds and wildlife in this area didn’t lose their voice. A manufacturing engineer by profession, Paul loves being outdoors whether hiking, backpacking, canyoneering, or leading birding field trips for the Audubon. He loves sharing the beauty and birds of Greater Zion with others. And he especially loves his wife and five young children.
