Western Blue Bird Season is Upon Us!
Upcoming Audubon Events

Article by Cindy Marble and Tara Clarke

On Tuesday, April 28th at 6 pm Tehachapi Audubon Group will have their second meeting of the year. The program will be held at Golden Hills Elementary School located at 20215 Park Rd, Tehachapi, CA. Karen Pestana will give a dynamic presentation on Western Bluebirds and the NestWatch program. Karen is a leading citizen scientist in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology Western Bluebird NestWatch program. The presentation gives a look into the world of Western Bluebirds; exploring local and national efforts to restore their populations and how we can protect native species and support thriving ecosystems. Her slide show is fascinating. The program is free and light refreshments are served. All are welcome; you do not need to be an Audubon member to attend. Please note the 6 p.m. start time is a change from years past.

On Saturday, May 2nd, we will take a walk with Karen Pestana, checking local nest boxes and entering data into Karen’s scientific log. You never know what we might find in those boxes! Meet at 9am in the parking area just outside of the Brite Lake entrance.

The Tehachapi Audubon Group is part of the Kern Audubon Society (KAS). KAS sponsors a variety of projects, including the installation of Fishing Line Receptacles, community education programs, and the preservation of public lands for wildlife habitat.
